The Inspiring Women project was born out of the unexpected success of the Inspiring Women Twitter campaign on 4th August 2013. My idea for the hashtag #InspiringWomen arose in response to the increased hate campaigns against women on Twitter. Some users chose to observe a Twitter silence in protest. Others chose to campaign in different ways. As a historian, I wanted to express my admiration for inspiring women from history, so I decided to spend the day sharing positive tweets about women. It is hoped that the Inspiring Women site will provide a platform for people to continue to share their stories of inspirational women. From Ancient Greece to modern-day Pakistan, the Inspiring Women project hopes to gather together hundreds of examples of inspiring women from all around the world.
